Hello!

Welcome to an inside look into what I’ve been up to since the pandemic hit. As you view and read what I’m sharing, I invite you to spend some time gazing at each picture with some deep breaths – these pieces were created with an intention to heal the inner “wounded artist”, which I believe lives in all of us. Until the past few years, creativity has had its place with the few who harness their “making” abilities. But as the pandemic called us all to be with ourselves differently, the art world has exploded with talent and potential. My pieces here were created with Mother Nature as my muse – they are made to touch you in personal ways as you receive them, so I invite you to connect so I can hear how they touched you. Enjoy!!

Artist Statement:

Emerald Blessings

This piece is inspired by an experience hiking with my dad to the Skookumchuck Narrows on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada, almost 20 years ago. The hike was through a lush pacific northwest forest of giant cedars, mosses, ferns, lichens and more, all dripping with a palpable life energy that emitted the freshest air I've ever breathed with scents that tingled my nervous system, giving me "bliss shivers".

I wanted this art piece to depict that aliveness I found there, as I channelled Gaia's feminine power into nature-based shapes of a woman's hips and womb space, all with tree elements. Its creation was a sensual dance as I worked with modelling paste, paints, and glazes. This piece is now an object for "visio divina", divine gazing, as it sparks the viewer with light, shadows and shine together with earthy greens, bronze and gold elements.

The photo doesn’t fully capture the magic aliveness of the piece – it shimmers and catches light via the shine of the paints, glazes and embedded rhinestones and Swarovski crystals, all anchored by a raw rose quartz sending love from Mother Earth up to the sky. Viewing it in person is a treat, as its colour and lustre shape-shifts - just like walking through that emerald forest of my sweet memories, reminding me that I am still a little bit wet, a little bit wild.

Mother Nature’s Palette & Mandala

Calling in the Muse sparked a creative impulse to work with some dried petals, flowers, and leaves that a friend gave me several years ago and were just waiting for the right project. Mother Nature pointed me to them and an old wooden paint palette to use as a canvas. Then a collection of amber gravel from my mother’s homeland Latvia showed up to be included. And the creative spirit made what you see.

For me, these pieces are an affirmation that much beauty can be creatively harnessed with what nature offers (with permission from and thanks to Mother Earth) and gives me an embodied inspiration to claim my place as an artist.
